The Most Recent Studio Display Update from Apple resolves an Audio Issue

Update 15.5 now has a new version available.

In response to reports of audio issues with the Studio Display, such as sound dropouts and choppy playback, Apple has published a new software update (via MacRumors). The new update is a revised version of update 15.5, which Apple merely claims resolves an audio issue,” and your Mac must be running macOS Monterey 12.4 or later in order to download and install it.

This week, a document that suggested Apple was aware of something was reported by MacRumors. According to the document, Apple said that the Studio Display’s hardware was not to blame for the audio troubles. Instead, the company advised customers to unplug the display from power, unplug any accessories or devices, wait 10 seconds, and then plug it back in.

Although it appears to have resolved a problem Parker Ortolani had been experiencing, it is unclear whether this latest version actually fixes the issues people have been reporting. Even though it’s a major effort, you can always try unplugging the display like Apple advised if you’re still having issues.

There are other concerns with Apple’s $1,599 Studio Display in addition to these audio ones. The display’s webcam has also received harsh criticism, and although Apple has published a fix to address the issue, it still falls short of expectations.

Apple has acknowledged that users of the Studio Display may encounter audio-related issues, including as music that unexpectedly and abruptly stops playing, audio that plays at a fast speed, audio that is distorted, and playback that is choppy.

Apple confirms in a note to authorized service providers that customers may experience speaker problems with the company’s $1599 display. The memo was obtained by MacRumors. Apple advises anyone experiencing problems to withdraw the Studio Display from power, disconnect any accessories or devices plugged into the display, wait ten seconds, and then plug it back in. Apple makes it clear that this is not a hardware issue and suggests that a future iOS release might fix the problems.

Apple has made a lot of noise over the Studio Display’s audio, microphone, and camera. Apple has praised the contentious 12MP built-in camera with Center Stage and the six-speaker array system, claiming that it is the “highest fidelity speaker system ever designed for Mac.”

Over the past few months, customers have been reporting problems with their Studio Display that involve the microphone and speakers, but recent weeks have seen an increase in these reports.
