According to Mark Gurman, the most recent model of Apple's long-rumored mixed reality headset has the company's just-announced M2 system-on-a-chip and 16GB of RAM. The news was revealed by the Bloomberg writer in his most recent Power On email, which also included information on a "deluge" of products Apple wants to ship over the coming year, including a new HomePod speaker.
The Verge notes that the majority of previous claims, such as those from The Information and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, have predicted the augmented and virtual reality headgear would include two CPUs. One of the SoCs would, in Kuo's estimation, have the same capabilities as the company's M1 processor, whilst the other would be a less sophisticated chip made to manage sensor data.
After years of speculation, there is mounting evidence that Apple is nearing the day when it will formally unveil its mixed reality headset. A Twitter user discovered proof that Apple most likely employed a shell business to register trademarks for "RealityOS" in May. Developers discovered mentions of the operating system earlier in the year in the App Store upload records. Tim Cook recently told China Daily that he "couldn't be more enthused about the prospects" given by augmented and virtual reality and urged the newspaper to "keep tuned" to learn more about what the company has to offer in that area.
Originally anticipated for release later this year, the device has now been set for 2023. This is in addition to the hardware that will drive the mixed reality headset, with Apple's own M2 processor reportedly handling the bulk of the wearable's processing.

According to what Gurman has been told, the corporation will soon begin one of its most ambitious times for the introduction of new items in its history, with the onslaught occurring between the fall of 2022 and the first half of 2023.

We may see two versions of the device given that renowned industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed to The Information (paywall) in an exclusive report that Apple will use two CPUs in its future mixed reality headset. To that aim, consumer- and enterprise-friendly solutions may be in the works, with the former using the M1 chip for augmented reality and design and the latter for gaming and VR experiences akin to the metaverse.
This environment could be the company's next major push, especially since Apple recently trademarked the phrase realityOS. Thus, it would be logical to have two headsets, one for experiencing things and the other for contributing to their creation.
