Finally, K-Pop Makes an Appearance on Fitness Plus
When Apple Fitness Plus was released in 2020, it was not just a means to promote the new Dance activity on the Apple Watch, but it was also a covert way to incorporate other services such as Apple Music. Apple is combining all of this with Dance workouts based on mega-popular K-pop band BTS. The fitness service has recently introduced Artist Spotlight series with recognised musicians, so it’s no surprise Apple is combining all of this with Dance workouts based on mega-popular K-pop band BTS.
The BTS collaboration is part of a content package for April 29th, which is International Dance Day. Starting next week, Fitness Plus trainer Ben Allen will lead workouts that contain choreography from BTS’ music videos.
Hits including “Butter (ft. Megan Thee Stallion),” “Dynamite,” “Boy With Luv (feat. Halsey),” “DNA,” “MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix),” “Permission to Dance,” and “Life Goes On” are among the tunes covered. Over the following four weeks, the band’s music will be included in various training categories such as HIIT.
With the ability to save playlists into customers’ Apple Music accounts, music has always been a significant aspect of Fitness Plus. Outside of the Latin Grooves genre, however, the artists included have been mostly English-language performers from the United States. However, given how popular K-pop has become in the worldwide market, include it makes sense. Beginning with BTS makes logical because the group was one of the best-selling groups in the United States in 2021, with 2.95 million digital song sales and four of the top ten best-selling singles.
However, it’s not all BTS. Apple is also releasing a limited-edition prize for International Dance Day, as well as a new Dance Collection dubbed “Get into a Groove with Dance.” Collections are crafted training playlists for a specific objective, such as running a 5K, and are a relatively new addition to the service. Apple is now introducing Artist Spotlight sessions from ABBA and Queen, in addition to BTS.
